James and The Giant Peach opens at Village Theatre Kidstage

Vikings star in local musical

Village Theatre Kidstage opened their spring show, James and the Giant Peach, last weekend at the Cope Gillette Theatre in Everett. Based off of Roald Dahl’s beloved fictional book, this musical is geared toward an audience of all ages. Shows run through April 24.

For those who aren’t familiar with the classic story, an orphan boy, James, is sent to live with his wretched aunts. James discovers a magical potion that grows a gigantic peach and sends the fruit rolling into the ocean on an epic journey. James encounters a quirky group of insects, hungry sharks, and plenty of other obstacles along the way. The show is full of catchy musical numbers and tells the story of courage and self-discovery.

Village Theatre Kidstage actors and Lake Stevens High School students junior Joshua Allinson and senior Payton Walles both perform in this charming musical. “We have a super, humongous peach. It’s great and you will not regret it if you see this show,” said Allinson, who plays the role of Grasshopper.

Walles plays multiple characters in the ensemble. “I really love doing these shows. I think they’re fun for everyone,” said Walles.

This witty musical is a must-see for everyone of all ages.

“The show was surprisingly humorous in ways I was not expecting,” said Lake Stevens High School Choir Director Heidi Forslund, who teaches members of the cast, “It was truly wonderful and one of my favorite shows I’ve ever seen at Kidstage. Josh, Payton and [other lead actors] all brought amazing life to their characters.”
